Test Overview : The TORCH test consists of tests for antibodies detection to four organisms that cause congential infections transmitted from mother to fetus: Toxoplasma gondii (toxoplasmosis), rubella (German measles), cytomegalovirus (CMV), and herpes simplex virus (HSV). Women who become affected with any of these diseases during pregnancy are at risk for miscarriage, still birth, or for a child with serious birth defects and/or illness. Thus, this test is performed before or as soon as pregnancy is diagnosed. Availability of this test is restricted by region. Physicians outside the province of Ontario please contact a Dynacare laboratory in your area for further information.
