QuantiFERON TB GOLD
Alternative Test Names
INTERFERON-GAMMA RELEASE ASSAY FOR TUBERCULOSIS, QUANTIFERON TB, QUANTIFERON TB GOLD, QUANTIFERON TB GOLD PLUS, TB QUANTIFERON
The QuantiFERON TB GOLD PLUS (QFT) blood test measures a person's immune reactivity to M. tuberculosis and can be used as an aid in diagnosing infection. The test should not be used to differentiate latent tuberculosis infection from tuberculosis disease. QFT is unaffected by previous BCG vaccination and will not give a false positive result.
Test Preparation Instructions
If you are visiting a Laboratory Health Centre call beforehand to confirm collections can be performed at the location and to secure a kit. Please allow 2 - 3 days for kit to arrive. In order to maintain the integrity of the sample, TB Quantiferon is not collected in some of our remote locations and Co-Op's. Please call your regional Help Desk or Customer Service to confirm an alternate location.
TB QUANTIFERON KIT
Collection consists of four tubes and drawn in following order: nil control, TB1 antigen, TB2 antigen and mitogen control. Fill tubes to the black mark on the side of the tube (1ml). Mix tubes by shaking firmly 10 times ensuring the entire inner surface of the tube is coated with blood. Avoid vigorous shaking which may cause gel disruption and lead to aberrant results. Indicate time of collection on the tube. NOTE: Do not collect Saturday or Sunday or prior to a public holiday.
Storage and Transport:
Store and ship at room temperature. Do not refrigerate or freeze. Specimens must arrive at main lab within 2-16 hours of collection.
