Test Overview : The oxidized LDL test may be ordered for individuals at low or intermediate risk of metabolic syndrome or cardiovascular disease. In addition, this test is useful in individuals who have cardiovascular disease and are at risk for an adverse cardiac event.

Based on a recent study of an "apparently healthy"
and non-metabolic syndrome population (1), the following
cut-offs have been defined for OxLDL: A cut-off of <60U/L
defines a population with a low relative risk of developing
metabolic syndrome, a range of 60-69 defines a
population with a moderate relative risk (2.8 fold)
and >=70 defines a population with a
high relative risk (3.5 fold).

Collection Requirements: Specimen may be collected in the Dr's office and submitted as per routine samples but must arrive at Dynacare within 24 hours of collection. Samples will be frozen upon receipt at a Dynacare main lab facility. Centrifuge and aliquot plasma to a transport tube.
Storage and Transport: If specimen will be received at a Dynacare main lab location within 24 hours of collection, store and ship refrigerated. If not, store frozen and ship on dry ice.
