Test Overview : Gynecological cytology is a screening test used to detect cervical cancer, precancerous lesions, atypical cells and all other cytological categories as defined by The Bethesda System for reporting gynecological cytology. This test has an associated false-negative and false- positive results. Follow appropriate cervical screening guidelines. Follow-up unexplained clinical signs and symptoms to minimize false negative results. Provide all relevant clinical information on Cytology requisition. The lack of relevant clinical information may affect the final interpretation.

Collection Requirements: Identify patient's name and date of birth on bottle. Rinse Broom device immediately in vial solution. Push Broom Device into bottom of vial forcefully 10 times and swirl vigorously. Discard device. If using the spatula and endocervical brush devices obtain adequate sample from ectocervix. Select contoured end of spatula and rotate 360° in clockwise direction. Swirl spatula vigorously 10 times in vial. Rinse in same vial solution and discard spatula. Using endocervical brush by rotating a ¼ turn. Rinse cytobrush immediately in same vial as spatula device by rotating the device in the solution 10 times while pushing it against the vial wall. DO NOT LEAVE ANY DEVICE IN VIAL. Close lid and tighten securely. A completed cytology requisition must accompany the specimen. Include relevant clinical information. Indicate the patient's name and date of birth on the container. The cytology requisition is available on the Dynacare website.
Storage and Transport: Store and ship at room temperature.
