Environment and Sustainability

Dynacare embraces cleaner and more efficient recycling and emissions reduction practices as well as ongoing electronic item disposal to reduce our environmental footprint. When we come together to build a greener future across Canada, we harness the power of collective action that leads to meaningful change.

Dynacare Go Green Team Goals

Our Go Green Goals reflect our shared responsibility to protect the environment and promote a culture of sustainability across all our operations.

Reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill

Reduced waste reduces greenhouse gas emissions and lowers environmental and financial costs.

Increase our recycling practices

More intuitive practices for employees to separate and dispose of waste correctly.

Lay the foundation for energy-from-waste solutions

Divert what we can from landfill to convert it into usable energy.

Commitment to Sustainability

Waste Management

New battery recycling collection boxes

Recycling boxes were made available at all main laboratories to encourage proper disposal of hazardous materials.

Clearly labeled waste bins in our lab and offices in Brampton

Leading the way, our two certified My Green Labs—the Brampton Product and Service Development and Genetics divisions—successfully piloted clean plastic recycling programs with waste bins designated for different waste streams: recyclables, organics, landfill, and specialty materials. Updated signage guides for sorting were designed to help employees easily make environmentally responsible choices every day.

Courier Fleet

More hybrid vehicles on the road for less pollution

At Dynacare, we pursue environmental initiatives that uphold our commitment to conserve natural resources and protect global ecosystems. We expanded our national courier fleet to include 30 new hybrid SUVs, increasing our total number of hybrid vehicles across our fleet to 43.

Every year, the Dynacare fleet travels over 15 million kilometres, so the total impact of hybrid vehicles makes a significant difference in lowering carbon emissions from fossil fuels. Not only are they better for the environment, but they’re also equipped with new technologies to improve the driver experience and include added safety features to better protect them.

Information Technology

Secure, landfill-free data disposal

Following our vendor audit confirming data destruction that meets strict data security standards, our partner ensured all shredded materials were forwarded to a certified smelter, with 100 per cent of residuals diverted from landfills.

Reducing on-premises infrastructure

Business-critical applications and desktop environments were migrated to the cloud, allowing Dynacare to decommission 10 physical servers, saving an estimated 15,000 to 20,000 kWh annually— comparable to the amount of electricity used in a small home—resulting in significant energy savings and reduced cooling demand in our facilities.

Optimizing network hardware

As part of our infrastructure review, Dynacare removed or consolidated over 30 network connections in laboratory areas. This cut down unnecessary equipment, simplified cabling, and reduced energy usage. Fewer active connections also reduce the long-term environmental impact of hardware manufacturing, maintenance, and disposal.

Reducing paper while delivering better healthcare services

As a leader in health and wellness solutions, Dynacare offers specialty testing to our customers thanks to the expansive test menu of our parent company, Labcorp. Previously, results from these tests were returned to Dynacare from Labcorp via a secured fax line and were then required to be manually entered into our systems. With improvements in secure technology, the two systems were connected so results could be transferred digitally, immediately, and securely. This new process reduced fax usage, as well as eliminated potential human error caused by manual data entry.
