Dynacare reached a significant milestone in its commitment to quality, accuracy and workplace safety. The Forensic Toxicology Laboratory in Edmonton has been accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017, the internationally recognized standard for testing and calibration laboratories that perform forensic toxicology, the scientific analysis of biological samples, such as urine or oral fluid, to detect the presence of drugs, alcohol or other substances.
This achievement highlights Dynacare’s leadership in forensic toxicology and workplace testing services across Canada. Notably, the accreditation covers both urine initial testing and oral fluid analysis, encompassing 62 different tests.
The accredited scope includes urine initial testing and oral fluid analysis. Urine initial testing is the first stage of a drug-testing process that screens a sample for the possible presence of drugs or their metabolites. Oral fluid analysis, commonly known as saliva testing, detects recent drug use by analyzing a saliva sample collected from an individual’s mouth.
Advancing Quality Standards in Workplace Testing
The accreditation, granted by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) in June, followed a rigorous evaluation process. Assessors conducted a comprehensive review of the laboratory’s operations, including a three-day on-site audit in January 2026, staff interviews, and an examination of the lab’s quality management system, policies, procedures and supporting documentation.
For clients and employers, accreditation provides confidence that drug testing is performed using validated methods, qualified personnel and stringent quality controls, helping ensure results are accurate, consistent and trustworthy.
This latest accreditation builds on an already strong foundation. The laboratory has been accredited by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) for urine initial testing since 2011, that is widely recognized as one of the most rigorous standards for workplace drug-testing laboratories. Together, SAMHSA and ISO 17025 accreditation provide independent confirmation that the laboratory meets both internationally recognized quality standards and specialized requirements for workplace drug testing.
Supporting Safety-Sensitive Workplaces Across Canada
For employers operating in safety-sensitive industries such as transportation, construction, energy and manufacturing, dependable drug and alcohol testing is essential to maintaining safe, healthy and productive workplaces. The Edmonton laboratory’s expanded accredited scope reinforces the ability for Dynacare to provide accurate, defensible and trusted results that organizations can rely on when making critical workplace decisions.
Looking Ahead
As workplace testing requirements continue to evolve, Dynacare remains focused on delivering high-quality, scientifically rigorous services that help organizations protect the safety and well-being of their workforce. The Edmonton laboratory’s ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accreditation is more than a certification. It is a reflection of the ongoing commitment to quality, innovation and customer confidence across Canada.
