Here’s what you can do to make your insurance exam go more smoothly and to ensure that we get the most accurate results possible:
- Have your photo ID ready (preferably a driver’s license). The Dynacare health professional conducting the insurance exam will need to verify your identity before beginning
- Get a good night's sleep before the exam
- Drink several glasses of water on the day of the appointment. This helps in specimen collection for both blood and urine samples
- Be sure you complete your fast (if required) for your blood test. You will be told if fasting is necessary when you book your appointment
- You’ll need a private area where you can talk freely with your Dynacare Health Professional about your medical history
- You’ll also need a washroom nearby where you can provide a urine sample
- If you have a tendency towards high blood pressure:
- Schedule your appointment for a time of day when you feel the most relaxed
- Be aware that stress, caffeine, nicotine and some prescription and non-prescription medications (including naturopathic, herbal, or homeopathic remedies and vitamins) can temporarily raise your blood pressure. If possible, try to avoid these for 24 hours before your appointment
- If you take prescription medication, please have it standing by for reference during the exam. Also, advise your Dynacare health professional if you’re taking any over-the-counter medication
- Be sure to take all your prescription medication as prescribed
- Avoid smoking, strenuous activity and/or exercise for 24 hours prior to your appointment
- Avoid alcoholic beverages, nasal decongestants and all foods containing poppy seeds for 24 hours prior to the appointment
- Advise your Dynacare health professional if your upper arm bicep is larger than 14 inches in diameter in order to ensure that they bring an appropriately sized blood pressure cuff
