The Carrier Screening can help determine if you have an increased chance of having a child with a genetic condition. With continuing advancement in treatment options, early insight can help you better prepare for your family’s future.
Carrier screening is a genetic test that helps determine whether you are a carrier of certain inherited conditions. Being a carrier typically does not affect your health, but it may increase the chance of having a child with a genetic condition if both reproductive partners carry the same condition.
Most individuals carry several genetic variants without knowing it. Carrier screening provides important information to support informed family planning decisions.
Important: Carrier screening specimens are analyzed by Dynacare’s affiliated laboratory in the United States. Personal health information, including name, date of birth, and gender, will accompany the specimen.
Anyone can be a carrier
You could be a carrier of a genetic condition regardless of your ethnicity and even when there is no known family history of the condition. Many carriers are healthy and may not know they are carriers until screening is performed.1
When is the best time to have carrier screening?
Carrier screening can be done at any time but is most useful before pregnancy or as early as possible during pregnancy. Early knowledge can help support family planning decisions and provide access to appropriate counselling and care.
