Committed to supporting the health and safety of Ontarians, the Province of Ontario has partnered with Dynacare to test for Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Who Should Get Tested?

In response to the rapidly spreading Omicron variant, the Ontario Ministry of Health is limiting eligibility for COVID-19 testing to the following population only:

  • Symptomatic people in very specific situations (please see below)
  • Asymptomatic people from or traveling for work to First Nation, Inuit or Metis Communities
  • Asymptomatic hospital patients directed by their physician to have a Covid test in advance of their treatment
  • Asymptomatic high-risk contacts associated with a confirmed or suspected outbreak in healthcare setting

If you are not in one of these groups, you are not eligible for Covid-19 PCR testing.
 

An Eligible Symptomatic Person is:

a person with the following symptoms:

  • Fever/chills, cough, shortness of breath, loss of taste or smell, runny nose, headache, extreme fatigue, muscle/joint pain, vomiting and diarrhea

who is:

  • A patient-facing healthcare worker
  • A member, volunteer, resident, essential care provider or visitor in hospitals, Long Term Care, retirement homes, First Nation elder care lodges, group homes, shelter, hospice, temporary foreign worker settings, and correctional institutions
  • A person from First Nation, Inuit, or Métis communities or travelling into these communities for work
  • A high-risk contact associated with a confirmed or suspected outbreak in a healthcare setting
  • Symptomatic people who are pregnant
  • First responders including fire, police and paramedics

Before You Arrive

Testing for asymptomatic contacts of cases is generally no longer recommended, except for high-risk contacts/individuals that are part of confirmed or suspected outbreaks in high risk settings.

Positive rapid antigen tests will no longer require PCR confirmation. 
 

What to Expect When You Arrive

At the testing centre, a healthcare professional will ask you some demographic questions as part of the registration process including your first and last name, and date of birth, as well as some screening question to determine your eligibility. Then, a nasal swab will be performed to collect sample for testing at a lab.

While You Wait for Results

Isolate yourself from others if you have COVID-19 symptoms or may have been exposed to COVID-19. If you do not have symptoms and have not been exposed to COVID-19, continue physical distancing and monitor for symptoms while you wait for results.

DynacarePlus

To access your results1, visit DynacarePlus.com or use the Dynacare Plus app available on the Apple store and Google Play.

Existing members: simply log in with your Dynacare Plus credentials.

Non-members: create account2 on DynacarePlus.com using the Dynacare Plus PIN received at your recent visit to a Dynacare location.

You will receive a 1-year complimentary membership3 with your COVID-19 test.

  1. If your results are not available on Dynacare Plus, please visit eHeathOntario
  2. To open a Dynacare Plus account, you must be 16 years old or older at the time of receiving your service at a Dynacare location.
  3. Dynacare Plus customers are eligible for up to 2 complimentary annual memberships per year. At membership renewal time, the regular rate will apply.

After a Positive Test

  • Fully vaccinated, tested positive from a PCR, rapid molecular or a rapid antigen test or under 12 years of age:
    • You must isolate for five days from the positive test result if you have no symptoms or from symptom onset and until their symptoms are improving for 24 hours (or 48 hours if gastrointestinal symptoms).
  • Partially vaccinated, unvaccinated or immunocompromised:
    • Self-isolate for 10 days from the onset of symptoms, or from the date of your test (whichever came sooner). 
  • Household contacts of people who have tested positive:
    • Individuals must isolate regardless of their vaccination status.
