Keep your workers safe with convenient fentanyl urine testing
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid pain reliever used in the treatment of severe pain. It is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine and has a shorter duration of action.
Although it can only be obtained by prescription, illegal, non-pharmaceutical fentanyl has become available. It is mixed with heroin and/or cocaine to enhance the euphoric effects and is sold through illegal drug markets – with or without the person’s knowledge of its presence.
Non-prescribed fentanyl is dangerous and has led to thousands of overdose deaths each year in Canada. To help keep your workers safe, Dynacare has two convenient ways to test for fentanyl in urine.
- Laboratory based screening is performed by immunoassay at a cut-off threshold of 2ng/mL. All non-negative specimens are confirmed by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) yielding quantitative results at a cut-off threshold of 1ng/mL. Confirmation testing includes fentanyl and metabolites norfentanyl, sufentanil and norsufentanil. Please indicate “FENT” under the “other” section on your chain-of-custody form to add this testing to your panel.
- Urine onsite devices are available to detect the presents of norfentanyl at a cut-off threshold of 20ng/mL in urine. Dynacare offers quantitative confirmation testing by LC/MS/MS at a cut-off threshold of 1ng/mL to confirm non-negative results. Please indicate “FENQ” on your chain-of-custody form to request this test.
